Heartwarming: SGFC Gives RSO $7.49 for Trip to Washington, D.C.
When third-year Quinn Poynting, treasurer for Women+ in Politics (W+IP), appealed to the Student Government Finance Committee (SGFC) for funding for W+IP’s spring break trip to Washington, D.C., they had low hopes.
“We’d already tried a bake sale, a hot cocoa sale, a silent auction,” Poynting said. “We even sold tickets to our debate on energy policy! But we just weren’t raising money.” As a last resort, they turned to SGFC to make up the cost of the trip.
According to the minutes from the meeting, SGFC voted, in light of W+IP’s extraordinary fundraising efforts, to advance the group $7.49 and “our sincere admiration.” The allocation constitutes the largest payment the Committee has ever made to an RSO. This gift surpasses even SGFC’s famous grant of $7.15, which saved the UChicago Birdwatching Club from insolvency in 1982.In unrelated news, W+IP has recently signed a funding agreement with the Heritage Foundation. Next week’s programming will be on the subject of “Why the US Absolutely and Truly Must Invade Greenland NOW, for… uhh… Feminist Reasons.”
