CTA Transit Bill Stalls Over Whether Chartreuse or Magenta Is Better Name for Line
SPRINGFIELD, IL—The Illinois legislature has stalled in passing a transit bill over disagreements on whether chartreuse or magenta would be a better name for a proposed new CTA line.
“We clearly must choose chartreuse for the new line,” said State Senate Majority Leader Kimberly Lightford (D-Westchester). “Chartreuse’s earthy green tones remind CTA riders of our hardworking Illinois farmers. There is no one who respects Illinois agriculture more than me. And that is why I am asking the Farm Bureau to endorse me for reelection.”
State Senate Minority Leader John Curran (R-Lemont) sees the issue differently: “The Magenta Line is the only possible choice for Illinois going forward. It is exactly halfway between maroon and purple, which would motivate both UChicago and Northwestern to support our project and for both of their boards of trustees to donate to my reelection campaign.”
Concerned over his own reelection chances if the bill fails to pass, Governor JB Pritzker has pressured the legislature to table the line color issue until 2026, for voters to decide on the matter.
