I-House Bake Sale Raises Enough Money to Move Building Closer to Campus

INTERNATIONAL HOUSE: The roar of heavy machinery and the excited chatter of students fill what was previously a quiet and isolated corner of campus. The source of this excitement? Due to the runaway success of the recent I-House bake sale, the dorm has raised enough money to move their entire building into the Midway. The new location, right beside the Midway Skating Rink, will be only two blocks away from the Quad.

“We were just looking to get a few extra study breaks,” Resident Head Amara Davies says of the bake sale. “Instead, we’re cutting our morning walk to campus in half. Not only that, but we’ll switch our default dining hall from Woodlawn to Cathey. No more concrete pillars and uncomfortable bulky chairs for us!”

The move, organized by UChicago’s top molecular engineers, will use the cranes left over from the Obama Center construction to hoist the entire building onto a flatbed truck. The truck will drive the four blocks to I-House’s new location, where the cranes will drop the building into place with a satisfying thud.

The engineers promise there will be “almost no lasting structural damage” and “a very small number of complications.” For her part, Davies is bullish on I-House’s future. “Sure, we’ll be without electricity and running water, but who cares? We can always hold another bake sale.”
