Yesterday afternoon, Student Government’s Committee on Recognized Student Organizations (CORSO) announced its 2012-13 RSO Award winners, with the University of Chicago Police Department (UCPD) taking top honors.
Citing the organization’s expanded involvement within the student community, CORSO’s press release praised the UCPD for its efforts to further interactions with other RSOs. “[The UCPD] took an increasingly hands-on role in student events this year,” read the official report, highlighting greater physical participation in student demonstrations.
Members of the UCPD also received recognition for complementing the work of other RSOs. “They may keep their affiliations low-key, but one will easily find their faces scattered throughout numerous organizations across campus.”
The UCPD snagged the prize from runner-up organization Student Government (SG) by a narrow vote margin, after a milestone year for the latter’s visibility and involvement in ethical affairs.
