Everyone’s Talking About the Price of Eggs, but What About the U.S. Trout Population?
I have been thinking about this a lot lately. I understand that the price of eggs is really important. I enjoy my omelettes and breakfast sandwiches, so of course I care about egg prices. But we’re leaving something out of the discussion: what happens to the U.S. trout population?
As an environmentalist, I am a staunch believer in the importance of every animal in our planet’s ecosystems. By sustaining the U.S. trout population, we can ensure that no ecosystems that involve trout are threatened in the years to come.
But what happens when egg prices get too high? People resort to other items for food. Sometimes it’s steak, sometimes it’s lentils. But in the end, some people will choose trout. This will undoubtedly lead to a decrease in the U.S. trout population, which is not okay.
I am seriously worried about this country’s future. I cannot consciously continue living in a world marred by such an extreme disdain for trout welfare. Society needs to take drastic action to ensure that our trout stay alive and healthy. We need to do our best, whether by not purchasing trout, closing trout fisheries or designated protected trout breeding grounds. Personally, I will dress up as a trout and swim in Lake Michigan. Hopefully that will help save some trout.
