City of Chicago Releases Election Results

In a surprise press conference that took place just hours before polls opened, the City of Chicago has announced the results of the mayoral election.

The election pitted incumbent mayor Rahm Emanuel against four challengers: Cook County Commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, 2nd Ward Alderman Bob Fioretti, Chicago businessman Willie Wilson, and community activist William Walls. In this morning’s conference, city administrators declared that Emmanuel will win the election with 51% of the vote.

“It is with great pleasure that we announce that Rahm Emanuel will be serving as mayor for another four years,” the City’s official spokesperson said, “The fact that Mayor Emanuel will win with 51% of the vote means that we won’t have to organize a run-off election in April.”

Emanuel praised the work of city officials in releasing the results in a timely manner and avoiding the confusion that would have arisen if the results were released after voting.

“The quick work of the City of Chicago in releasing the election results ensure that Chicago voters don’t have to worry. They can stay at home and avoid the bitter weather today.”

Emanuel said that his main focus on his second term will be decreasing the effects of inequality in Chicago and increasing transparency in local government.

“This election shows that the people of Chicago want a mayor that represents them and their concerns,” Emanuel said, “And I want to be that mayor.”

Polls opened at 6 A.M. and will close at 7 P.M., for those who are interested in voting symbolically.
