This year\u2019s winning piece, \u2018Reg Bathroom Has Been Closed for Five Weeks Now; Probably Getting Fixed Soon,\u2019 reminds us of what\u2019s <em>really <\/em>important\u2014plumbing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Danny Franklin, the author of the piece, reassured us that he had not used AI to write his article, \u201cexcept for the fact-y parts.\u201d Despite this, Franklin\u2019s insightful journalism shines in lines like, \u201cThe floor was wet, likely because the toilet was leaking water, and the water was watering the floor, wetting it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award is a great triumph for student journalism at the University of Chicago.
