When third-year Quinn Poynting, treasurer for Women+ in Politics (W+IP), appealed to the Student Government Finance Committee (SGFC) for funding for W+IP\u2019s spring break trip to Washington, D.C., they had low hopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019d already tried a bake sale, a hot cocoa sale, a silent auction,\u201d Poynting said. \u201cWe even sold tickets to our debate on energy policy! But we just weren\u2019t raising money.\u201d As a last resort, they turned to SGFC to make up the cost of the trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the minutes from the meeting, SGFC voted, in light of W+IP\u2019s extraordinary fundraising efforts, to advance the group $7.49 and \u201cour sincere admiration.\u201d The allocation constitutes the largest payment the Committee has ever made to an RSO. This gift surpasses even SGFC\u2019s famous grant of $7.15, which saved the UChicago Birdwatching Club from insolvency in 1982.In unrelated news, W+IP has recently signed a funding agreement with the Heritage Foundation.
