I\u2019m a freshman at Harvard University. For the past four years, I\u2019ve participated in 34 debate clubs, taken 19 AP classes, and spent my Saturday nights sewing blankets for orphaned kittens. But as I spent every waking minute (and most sleeping minutes) with my nose in my work, I knew it was for a cause. Because once I got to Harvard, I would never have to work that hard again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For those UChicago students unaware of the concept of grade inflation (that\u2019s inflation<\/em> with an \u201cI\u201d, by the way, not deflation<\/em> with a \u201cD\u201d), it is the wonderful idea that if you just show up and try, your professor will give you an A<\/em>. Doesn\u2019t that sound nice? It certainly did to high school me. In fact, it was one of the main reasons I chose Harvard over UChicago \u2013 the other being that crimson looks better on me than maroon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But now, those tyrants in the administration think that isn\u2019t enough. They claim that an \u201cA\u201d should mean \u201cmastery\u201d of the material. How is that fair? Even if I don\u2019t actually know how to prove a limit, but I sat in class and played Google Snake every day, who\u2019s to say that I didn\u2019t put in the effort? I deserve better. I didn\u2019t work so hard in high school only to have to continue<\/em> working. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019m at Harvard University, for goodness\u2019s sake! In just a few short years, Fortune 500 companies will be flooding my inbox with job offers. The UN will be asking me to solve the climate crisis. Pope Leo will be considering my cause for sainthood\u2013even though I\u2019m still alive! My professors are dealing with the first still-living saint. Would you give the first still-living saint anything less than an \u201cA\u201d? I don\u2019t think so.
