First-years report door-knocking at midnight, creepy voices whispering \u201cjoinnnnn the councillllll,<\/em>\u201d and leaflets shoved under doors via mice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI don\u2019t have the time,\u201d said one anonymous first-year, buried in the stacks at the Reg, \u201cIt just seems like so much work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n A particularly mournful and visibly depressed student said he thought the House Council was \u201calways going to be there for me.\u201d However, he has found that they\u2019re \u201calways hanging around my dorm at the worst moments. Like 10 pm? And when I actually want advice in the morning they\u2019re nowhere to be found!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt\u2019s honestly pretty chill,\u201d said a first-year who had joined House Council, lying down on the couch to do their econ homework, \u201cI just wanted to bond with the council and experience community!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n After further questioning by the Dealer<\/em>, however, they explained the real reason for their decision. \u201cThey offered recommendation letters from the resident heads,\u201d they explained. \u201cAnd could you please<\/em> let me out of here?! I have a House Council meeting to go to!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe REALLY need more members,\u201d the House Council President told the Dealer<\/em>. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of bureaucracy, you know? You\u2019ve got to make a thousand Google forms from scratch, attend once-a-week-half-hour meetings where you get attacked by dogs, and even write the three-page newsletters about UChicago Safe\u2014all that comes from us!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The House President also encouraged members from outside the house to get involved. \u201cAs long as you\u2019re not a fourth year, we can fudge the numbers a little.
