WASHINGTON\u2014On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt denied reports that President Donald Trump had been gifted a friendship bracelet bearing the words \u201cI [Heart Symbol] Pedophilia\u201d by the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cLet me be absolutely clear,\u201d Leavitt told reporters at a morning press conference, \u201cThe president does not \u2018heart\u2019 pedophilia, nor does he own any homemade jewelry indicating that he does. And if he does, it\u2019s as a joke. And if it\u2019s not a joke, the Democrats did something worse probably.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The friendship bracelet was first reported on by <\/span>The New York Times<\/span><\/i>, whose reporters spoke to multiple anonymous sources familiar with the House Oversight Committee\u2019s review of material obtained from Epstein\u2019s estate via a subpoena issued in August. Other gifts Trump reportedly received over the course of his friendship with the late financier included a coffee mug with the financier\u2019s face on it and a T-shirt reading \u201cI went to Epstein Island and all I got was this lousy T-shirt, as well as multiple opportunities to commit sex crimes against underage girls.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In a post on Truth Social, the president forcefully denied the reported gifts. \u201cI would never accept one of Jeff\u2019s UGLY bracelets,\u201d Trump wrote on Tuesday. \u201cHe was ALWAYS trying to pawn those pieces of CRAP (pardon my language!) off on everybody even though NOBODY WANTED THEM! Get a clue JEFF!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In a series of further posts, Trump clarified that he had never met Epstein, that he hadn\u2019t spoken to him since 2004, that Epstein \u201cwasn\u2019t as bad as people say,\u201d that he hadn\u2019t spoken to him since 2007, that he was \u201cnot even totally sure who this guy was,\u201d that the Epstein files were a hoax, that he wasn\u2019t in the Epstein files, that the Epstein files weren\u2019t a big deal, that \u201clots and lots of Obama people were in these files,\u201d and that he hadn\u2019t spoken to Epstein since 2002.<\/span><\/p>\n

Asked to comment on these allegations, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, a fellow Republican, told reporters that he hadn\u2019t been following the story closely, but added, \u201cI\u2019m certain that what the president has said, no matter what it is, is completely true and accurate. Let me also say that he\u2019s a really cool guy\u2013and handsome, as well.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
