ALUMNI HOUSE\u2014 David Pilvin, a first-year living in Woodlawn, naively believes he will have one singular academic advisor throughout his time at the University.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pilvin first met his advisor, Justin Thum, just twenty minutes ago. \u201cMy advisor is so helpful,\u201d says Pilvin, \u201cHe must have a great job with a lot of long-term prospects.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pilvin was not at all put off by the fact that Thum was only hired three days ago. \u201cIt\u2019s great that he\u2019s new,\u201d Pilvin gushed, \u201cHe\u2019s at the start of a lengthy and illustrious career in academic advising. I\u2019m excited to be there at the start of something great.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Thum, a graduate from Yale University, currently holds a master\u2019s degree in Spanish. \u201cThis must be his calling,\u201d Pilvin said, \u201cHe wants to help people like me figure out if they need to take their language requirement\u2013 for the rest of his life!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tucking a printed photograph of Thum inside his wallet, Pilvin told the <\/span>Dealer<\/span><\/i>, \u201cI\u2019m excited to have a partner in this journey at the University. I actually want to have weekly meetings with him, which I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll always be available for.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe someday, when I graduate, I can knock on his door again, and we can reminisce about the good old days,\u201d Pilvin said before being interrupted by a notification on his phone. \u201cOh boy! It\u2019s Justin!\u201d he said. \u201cWait\u2026 \u2018Bittersweet news\u2019!
