Trying not to appear too smug, area second year Bob Johnson just couldn\u2019t help posting on Linkedin that he would not be able to call or text anyone starting in early July. This is because Johnson received his dream internship on a \u201ctotally prestigious\u201d shrimping boat in Alaska. \u201cI\u2019ve been thinking of going into the fishery business for a long time\u2026well, since I got an A- in SOSC last quarter\u201d, Now, three weeks later, Johnson has his choice of multiple prestigious shrimping boat offers. It was only when he received an offer from the <\/span>Lady Delilah<\/span><\/i>, a high-catching boat in the beautiful town of Crab Neck, Virginia,<\/span> that he felt confident in his ability to make a decision.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Johnson spoke passionately about the opportunities presented in the shrimp boat industry that will allow him to make ample use of his Slavic Studies major, Biology minor. \u201cI\u2019m not gonna be like, studying shrimp or anything. I\u2019ll just be catching them. But I\u2019ll be around them, you know? So I think it\u2019ll definitely help with, like, the biology component, at least.\u201d\u00a0 He also described many friends who \u201chave trouble hiding their envy\u201d because they couldn\u2019t find internships in their desired fields and had to resort to working in \u201cthings like marketing\u201d. He anticipates a shrinking of his social circle due to this envy, but he says that he\u2019ll simply have to \u201cget over it because shrimping is more important.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked if he\u2019d ever had any doubts about his chosen field since first looking into it in his first year, Johnson said he had briefly considered working on a freight train or moving to Japan and \u201cseeing what happens,\u201d but ultimately decided that the sea is his \u201cgreatest, deepest, passion\u2026 as of three weeks ago.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
