The ad appeared behind home plate for the bottom of the ninth inning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UChicago\u2019s marketing department released a statement celebrating this accomplishment:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From UChicago to the majors! With the entire baseball world watching, a UChicago Medicine ad played a pivotal role in Carlos Rod\u00f3n\u2019s dynamic no-hit win over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe think the sign was one of the most important factors in Carlos\u2019s performance,\u201d said UChicago Medicine\u2019s advertising department. \u201cRod\u00f3n came out in the ninth, saw the sign for the first time, and then immediately proceeded to throw as hard as he had all night. I\u2019m not sure there\u2019s any other factor that can explain why he\u2019d be throwing like that in the ninth inning of a game the Sox already had in the bag.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For students \u2014 or prospective students \u2014 watching Rod\u00f3n\u2019s no-hitter, the ad served as a reminder of UChicago\u2019s powerful reach. Preliminary estimates from the admissions department showed that the university would likely receive 4000 additional applications as a result of the sign\u2019s appearance. \u201cThe ad is a great example of how UChicago can get you wherever you want to go,\u201d said Dean of Admissions Jim Nondorf, \u201cas long as where you want to go is being on the outside of the majors looking in.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe ad represents UChicago\u2019s powerful commitment to the South Side,\u201d said John Boyer, Dean of the College. \u201cThe message is clear: nothing, not even baseball players, will stand in the way of the University\u2019s symbiotic relationship with its surrounding community. Except for that pitcher. He was standing in the way of the sign for a while.
