In an effort to boost the diversity of their first-year applicant pool, newly established fraternity Delta Iota Kappa has become hazing-optional. <\/span>The choice comes amid a wave of other fraternities forego hazing requirements in light of disparities in alcohol access among pledges.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chapter President Juan Tis Moclout sat down with <\/span>The Dealer <\/span><\/i>to explain the policy. \u201cWe decided that it wouldn\u2019t be fair for us to hold disadvantaged students to the same standard as their privileged counterparts. Who are we to say that <\/span>Jim Swaggart<\/span>, a fresh faced recruit who grew up in a small Baptist town with two strict cousins <\/span>\u2013<\/span> I mean parents <\/span>\u2013<\/span> and no access to beer, won\u2019t one day be ripping fat hits off a gravity bong with the boys on the quad?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked whether the new policy had anything to do with moving his frat up the US Dudes & Freshman Girls Report ranking, Moclout vehemently denied any correlation.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s got nothing to do with rankings or clout, really,\u201d said Moclout. \u201cWe\u2019re totally not desperate to gain members cause we\u2019re a new frat with zero name recognition.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

At this point in the interview, a drunk pledge stumbled into the room. \u201cI\u2019m getting kinda hungry,\u201d he yelled at Moclout. \u201cWhy don\u2019t you run to CVS and get me some Sour Punch Straws and a bag of Baked Lays?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Moclout turned red in the face and cleared his throat. \u201cHow dare you s-speak to me\u2026\u201d he started, but trailed off as he noticed the pledge was getting angry.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a deal! I show up to the parties for half an hour a week and you do as I say!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAlright, alright,\u201d said Moclout. Turning to the <\/span>Dealer <\/span><\/i>reporter, he whispered, \u201cI assure you this isn\u2019t the typical dynamic we have with our pledges. He\u2019s just got some anger issues.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Immediately after he finished, another pledge entered the room. \u201cGimme some of those Lays too, and a jar of Newman\u2019s Own medium salsa on the side!\u201d he yelled. \u201cYou know what, make it mild, cause my stomach doesn\u2019t agree with spicy stuff.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Moclout sighed and nodded his head. \u201cDo you guys prefer Original or Barbeque?\u201d he asked. As the pledges made up their minds, he signaled to the <\/span>Dealer <\/span><\/i>that the interview was over.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since implementing the hazing-optional application policy, Delta Iota\u2019s acceptance rate has seen a steep decline from 90 percent (Frank Fingerstein, one of the ten winter recruits, had a weirdly titular habit of fingering himself when drunk, and so even Delta Iota had to let him go) to 69 percent, bringing them from last place to second to last* in the U.S. Dudes and Freshmen Girls Report rankings.<\/span><\/p>\n
