For the first time since 1976, Texas has voted blue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Pew Research Poll conducted this week found that 52% of Texans now consider \u201cCool Blue\u201d their favorite Gatorade flavor, up from only 43% in 2016. This represents a dramatic shift from previous elections, in which the clear favorite has generally been \u201cFruit Punch.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCool Blue\u201d fans across the state and country have spent the day celebrating. \u201cIt\u2019s exciting to see such a delicious flavor finally get some real traction in Texas,\u201d said Sarah Chao (D-CT). \u201cIt\u2019s a true testament to the power of getting out the vote.\u201d Many young Texans were particularly fond of \u201cCool Blue,\u201d citing nostalgic memories of the beverage from their childhoods. \u201cIt really brings me back to middle school. Man, those were good times&#8211;before I had crippling student loans to worry about,\u201d reminisced one 20-something-year-old on his sixth hour of standing in line. \u201cThe nurse\u2019s office always gave out \u2018Cool Blue\u2019 Gatorade too.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still, the opinion is far from unanimous. Across the Lone Star State, die-hard \u201cFruit Punch\u201d fans could be seen pouring the sports drink onto voters\u2019 phones and computers, in an effort to suppress their votes. \u201cI\u2019m \u2018Fruit Punch\u2019 till I die!\u201d one heavily-armed man shouted at Shady Dealer reporters in Dallas. \u201cIt runs through my veins instead of blood!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Evangelical Christians were also aggressive about their distaste for \u201cCool Blue\u201d: \u201cIt\u2019s unnatural!\u201d complained megachurch pastor Joel Graham. \u201cNowhere in the bible does Christ drink \u2018Cool Blue;\u2019 it\u2019s a creation of Satanic scientists sent by God to test us.\u201d Members of Graham\u2019s Church of the Rehydrator protested against these \u201cevil\u201d flavors of Gatorade at a rally in Austin last week, chanting, \u201cIt was Adam and Eve, not Adam and \u2018Cool Blue!\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supporters of \u201cBlue Cherry\u201d were split on \u201cCool Blue.\u201d Some refused to vote for a flavor they viewed as not blue enough. \u201cIf it doesn\u2019t permanently stain my lips and tongue, I won\u2019t drink it,\u201d wrote @catgirlstalin on Twitter, adding \u201cIf you drink \u2018Cool Blue,\u2019 you may as well be drinking \u2018Fruit Punch\u2019 for all I care.\u201d Other so-called \u201cCherry Chums\u201d were less rigid. Pete W, one such individual, explained: \u201cIn the end, it\u2019s going to be either \u2018Cool Blue\u2019 or \u2018Fruit Punch,\u2019 and honestly I just prefer \u2018Cool Blue.\u2019 It\u2019s just a shame there\u2019s no other way to do voting&#8211;if only there were some way people could rank the candidates in order of preference. Ah, well.
