The Chicago Police Department announced this week a groundbreaking initiative that aims to \u201crethink the way that citizens interact with their police force,\u201d according to a statement released by a department spokesperson.<\/p>\n
The so-called \u201cFuck the Police\u201d program will seek to \u201cmove citizen encounters with the police off the streets and into supportive, perhaps even intimate, spaces where positive relationships can thrive,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFuck the Police\u201d will supplant the current system of \u201ccommunity liaisons\u201d\u2014designated officers who work especially closely with the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we’ve realized is that all officers should be engaged in partnerships with the public,\u201d said Police Superintendent Gary McCarthy. \u201cCommunity liaisons should take place throughout the force.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chicago residents have had mixed reactions to the announcement. Kerry Ivanhoe, president of the Chicago Police Spouses Association, and Jordan Brandt, president of the Chicago Sex Workers League, were skeptical of the program.<\/p>\n
\u201cMembers of our organizations have been fucking the police for decades,\u201d said Ivanhoe in a joint interview. \u201cTrust us, it\u2019s not all it\u2019s cracked up to be,\u201d Brandt said.<\/p>\n
