Why, I Think I\u2019ll Vote for Bernie Sanders<\/delete>By Jamie Dimon, CEO, JPMorgan Chase<\/insert><\/p>\n

I was speaking on the phone the other day with my good friend Hillary when she asked me one stumper of a question\u2014\u201cJamie,\u201d she said to me, \u201cJamie, have you thought about who you\u2019re going to vote for in this upcoming election?\u201d<\/insert><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat upcoming election, Hil?\u201d I asked, not being much of a man<\/delete> for the political life.<\/insert><\/p>\n

\u201cThe presidential election, dummy,\u201d she said. \u201cNow, if you\u2019ll excuse me, I have some covert emailing to do.\u201d And she hung up. <\/insert><\/p>\n

“Jamie,” I said to myself, “Jamie, fella, who are <\/em>you going to vote for?” Now, like plenty of other Americans, it\u2019s the government that pays my paycheck, so I guess I ought to take an interest in it.<\/delete> I\u2019ve never worried so <\/insert>much about economic regulations,<\/insert>,<\/delete> or taxes\u2014<\/insert>; <\/delete>I have some<\/delete> great <\/delete>guys down in D.C. who take care of that. But there\u2019s lots of policies I do think matter, so I got to poking through the Wikipedia and did my research, and that\u2019s why I\u2019m voting for Bernie Sanders.<\/insert><\/p>\n

Bernie seems like a heck of a guy. I haven\u2019t had a chance to sit down with him one-on-one yet, and,<\/insert> even more unusually, I don\u2019t have his home, work, or mobile numbers. Like me, he\u2019s a New Yorker, and us New Yorkers are tough, practical, rough-and-tumble characters, thanks to our difficult backgrounds<\/delete> and stuff<\/delete>. Like me, he didn’t<\/insert> attended<\/delete> some highfalutin Ivy League institution. But above all, like me, Bernie cares about the regular guys.<\/insert><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not easy out here for us working stiffs\u2014the women and men who put in long hours to make sure there\u2019s food on the family table, expertly prepared by a cadre of professional chefs using only the finest ingredients. Bernie understands that whether you\u2019re a homemaker, like my wife, who oversees our <\/insert>the <\/delete>staff assigned to our various country estates<\/delete>, or a guy putting in long hours at the office who\u2019s had to substitute for his own presence at family events<\/delete>gatherings<\/insert> by buying successively<\/delete>increasingly<\/insert> more<\/delete> lavish gifts for his wife and children, you need to be heard.<\/insert><\/p>\n

Bernie\u2019s perceptive, too. I\u2019ve been following his speeches, and just a week ago <\/delete>, he s<\/delete>told a gathered crowdVermont crowd<\/delete><\/insert>a<\/delete>i<\/delete>d<\/delete>, \u201cThis is a rigged economy, which works for the rich and the powerful \u2026 You know, this country does not just <\/insert>belong to a handful of billionaires.\u201d I think he\u2019s absolutely right. In fact, the United States is home to about 526 billionaires.<\/insert>And there there was the time Bernie told esteemed economist Alan Greenspan, back in the days when Alan was Fed Chairman, \u201cYou see your major function in your position as the need to represent the wealthy and large corporations.\u201d If I know one thing about Alan, and I do, it\u2019s that that\u2019s absolutely the case. Rarely has an economist invested a passion and commitment like Alan\u2019s to the centers of American wealth. It took some convincing over the course of our many meetings, but, to be honest, not even that much.<\/delete><\/insert><\/p>\n

What America needs right now is someone with a head on his shoulders, someone who understands the importance of robust cash flow in our system of<\/insert>our<\/delete> government, who knows what a job creator really is, and who cares what happens to<\/delete>about<\/insert> working guys like me, who are this country\u2019s thankless, under-appreciated backbone<\/delete>. Someone who wants to bring people together, so they can have a real voice, the way I brought together America\u2019s largest banks into a conglomerate behemoth with literally zero negative consequences whatsoever. <\/delete>It seems to me that t<\/delete>T<\/insert>hat someone, it seems to me,<\/insert> is Bernie Sanders.<\/insert><\/p>\n
