Earlier this week, US News and World Report<\/insert><\/i> released their annual rankings of the nation\u2019s most prestigious prisons. The 5 top<\/delete> top 5 <\/insert>ranked prisons have been printed below.<\/p>\n

5. St. Joseph County Jail<\/p>\n

\tClocking in at number five on the list is<\/insert> St. Joseph,<\/insert> one of the most sought–<\/insert> <\/delete>after jails in its home state of Indiana. Inmates cited its small size and high correctional officer to inmate ratios<\/delete> as the prison\u2019s biggest draws. \u201cI really wanted the small prison experience,<\/insert>\u201d sa<\/delete>ys <\/delete>inmate Jacob Watts said<\/insert>. \u201cWhen I did my prison tours in high school, I realized that the large,<\/delete> federal prisons just weren\u2019t for me. I wanted a more intimate prison atmosphere.”<\/insert>\u201d.<\/delete> Don\u2019t let its small size fool you, though; St. Joseph is still regarded as one of the powerhouses of the american institutional correction system. 4. Petersburg Federal Correctional Institution<\/p>\n

\tNestled in scenic southern Virginia, Petersburg Federal Correctional Institution is a great choice for anyone looking to get in touch with the<\/insert> S<\/insert>s<\/delete>outh during their time in prison. Located in a classic prison town, inmates at<\/delete> Petersburg allows its inmates to <\/insert>spend their days soaking up all that it\u2019<\/delete>s southern location has to offer (while confined to the prison grounds, of course). \u201cThere\u2019s definitely a southern jock vibe here,<\/insert>\u201d says <\/delete>inmate James Van Dyke said<\/insert>. \u201cWe go pretty hard during recreation time. <\/delete>This prison yard is no place for sissies<\/delete>.<\/insert>\u201d.<\/delete> Despite its competitive athletics, prisoners of all types can find a home at Petersburg.<\/delete> \u201cThere\u2019s a great prison culture here\u201d says CO James Howe. \u201cI can\u2019t think of any prison I would rather be at\u201d.<\/delete> <\/p>\n

\tLouisiana State Penitentiary is the quintessential large,<\/delete> state prison:<\/insert>;<\/delete> with over 5,000 inmates, it\u2019s the biggest prison in the United States, and it has<\/insert> and has<\/delete> the<\/insert>an<\/delete> attitude to match. \u201cWith such a large size, you can definitely get lost, especially during your first year,<\/insert>\u201d says <\/delete>inmate Aaron Rierson said<\/insert>. \u201cBut if you\u2019re a self–<\/insert> <\/delete>advocate, you can get all the attention you need from Correctional Officers and other prison personnel.
