NASA Astronomer Charles Ledson announced on Thursday that they had discovered water in Breckinridge, a satellite dorm of the University of Chicago.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/span>\u201cToday is a truly momentous day, and this finding will make us rethink the possibility of life in satellite dorms,\u201d said Ledson in a press conference, \u201cgenerations to come will remember this as a turning point in modern astronomy.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/span>This finding was the latest product of a eight year <\/span>Vulcan <\/span>Rover project. \u00a0<\/span>Vulcan<\/span> launched in May of 2007, and it reached Breckinridge in 2009. \u00a0\u201cWe encountered many setbacks during the launch of <\/span>Vulcan<\/span>. \u00a0Simply finding Breckinridge was a major hurdle we had to overcome\u201d. \u00a0However, after reaching Breckinridge, <\/span>Vulcan<\/span> made discovery after discovery. \u00a0In 2010, they discovered ice water, and in 2013, they found valleys that suggest that a river of water may have run through Breckinridge, or B1924 by its astronomical name. <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/span>\u201cI\u2019m just in awe of what space exploration is capable of accomplishing,\u201d says University \u00a0of Chicago professor Jarred Koo, \u201cI remember, just 10 years ago, when I thought Breckinridge was this barren wasteland, which had nothing to offer science. \u00a0Boy, was I wrong.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/span>This is the first time liquid water has been discovered in any major satellite dorm. \u00a0Ledson explains that this suggests that \u201cwe may be able to find liquid water in other satellite dorms, such as Maclean, Broadview, and Blackstone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/span>\u201cAnd who knows?
