But we\u2019re a quarter in, and I\u2019m requesting to move to a single, though I\u2019d settle for a double or forced triple or anything at all with a bed that\u2019s away from my current roommate. <delete class=\"del cts-1\" data-cid=\"45\" data-time=\"1451936705203\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">It\u2019s nothing personal though! I can\u2019t stress that enough.<\/delete> <\/p>\n<p>Edna and I wrote to each other over Facebook a few times over the summer, and we seemed to have lots in common<insert class=\"ins cts-1\" data-cid=\"214\" data-time=\"1451938579418\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">.<\/insert><delete class=\"del cts-1\" data-cid=\"213\" data-time=\"1451938574968\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">: we were both planning to be pre-meds and we both wanted to study abroad in Paris. It <\/delete><delete class=\"del cts-1\" data-cid=\"213\" data-time=\"1451938574968\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">seemed like we were going to get along great.<\/delete> On move-in day we were shocked to discover we even had the same bedding! On our first night, <delete class=\"del cts-1\" data-cid=\"31\" data-time=\"1451936676073\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">she seemed a little homesick and was talking about her family a lot, so I sat down to just talk it out and get to know her. Things were looking better and <\/delete>we were joking around a l<insert class=\"ins cts-1\" data-cid=\"35\" data-time=\"1451936681212\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">ittle<\/insert><delete class=\"del cts-1\" data-cid=\"33\" data-time=\"1451936680537\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">ot<\/delete>, and I got to chatting about my family<delete class=\"del cts-1\" data-cid=\"40\" data-time=\"1451936689028\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">, too<\/delete>. I casually mentioned that my parents got divorced when I was in third grade, and that\u2019s when everything changed. <\/p>\n<p>The previously bubbly and conversational Edna looked at me like a deer in the headlights and stammered, \u201cYour\u2026 your parents are divorced?\u201d She had more fear in her eyes than any creature I\u2019d ever seen before. I calmly reassured her that it was fine <insert class=\"ins cts-2\" data-cid=\"36\" data-time=\"1452008718278\" data-userid=\"3\" data-username=\"Nicolas Aldape\">&#8211;<\/insert> it\u2019s probably better that they\u2019re separated, they get along and they\u2019re friendly now, we still have birthday dinners together, etc. Nothing seemed to placate her extreme concern, and she fell asleep twitching. <\/p>\n<p>I passed it off as <insert class=\"ins cts-1\" data-cid=\"53\" data-time=\"1451936852513\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">a little<\/insert><delete class=\"del cts-1\" data-cid=\"46\" data-time=\"1451936850927\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">bizarre<\/delete> first-day-of-college nerves, and decided to start anew the next day. Everything went fine! A blank slate was what we both needed. I almost forgot about the incident, until a month later I noticed a few post-it notes stuck on my desk. They all had peppy handwritten messages on them, like \u201cYour parents were married but aren\u2019t anymore!\u201d, \u201cYour mom and your dad live in different houses!\u201d, and \u201cYou have two Christmases!\u201d Edna smiled silently and nodded encouragingly on her bed while I slowly read them and placed them in the recycling bin. <\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s when the sleep-talking started. All through the night she\u2019d unconsciously shout phrases like \u201c<insert class=\"ins cts-1\" data-cid=\"62\" data-time=\"1451936877245\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">y<\/insert><delete class=\"del cts-1\" data-cid=\"61\" data-time=\"1451936876734\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">Y<\/delete>our parents still love each other but not in a marital way\u201d and \u201c<insert class=\"ins cts-1\" data-cid=\"64\" data-time=\"1451936884689\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">t<\/insert><delete class=\"del cts-1\" data-cid=\"63\" data-time=\"1451936883998\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">T<\/delete>heir separation had been discussed for a long time and they both still love you.\u201d While admittedly slightly comforting, the yelling made it very difficult for me to stay asleep, and I found that it disturbed my academic performance. The worst was when Edna started sleepwalking<insert class=\"ins cts-1\" data-cid=\"67\" data-time=\"1451936909717\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">, too<\/insert><delete class=\"del cts-1\" data-cid=\"65\" data-time=\"1451936907184\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\"> and sleep-talking at once<\/delete>, <insert class=\"ins cts-1\" data-cid=\"76\" data-time=\"1451936914853\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">She once climbed <\/insert><delete class=\"del cts-1\" data-cid=\"72\" data-time=\"1451936914015\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">and w<\/delete><delete class=\"del cts-1\" data-cid=\"85\" data-time=\"1451936938271\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">alked<\/delete> right into my bed, with me, and whispered, \u201cYou spent an equal amount of time living with both your parents, alternating weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I talked to my RAs about this for a while, who were calm and cool and suggested I just confront her about it, but casually. I planned to, but <insert class=\"ins cts-2\" data-cid=\"5\" data-time=\"1452023362693\" data-userid=\"3\" data-username=\"Nicolas Aldape\">on <\/insert>the day I was finally going to ask her to be more mindful<insert class=\"ins cts-2\" data-cid=\"2\" data-time=\"1452023359663\" data-userid=\"3\" data-username=\"Nicolas Aldape\">,<\/insert> I walked into the room and it looked like a detective\u2019s office<insert class=\"ins cts-1\" data-cid=\"105\" data-time=\"1451936967013\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">\ufeff<\/insert>: she had hundreds of photos of both of my parents taped around the walls, a few photos of them together, maps to both of their homes, and the actual legal files from their attorneys and the courthouse, all connected with pins and twine. She was sitting on the bed listening to phone recordings of my parents arguing from fifteen years ago and she was utterly beaming. I made eye contact with Edna and she just stared, almost lifeless, and said, \u201cThe cool thing was that you got to decorate two different bedrooms. And again, both your parents love you so much,\u201d before going back to sketching a disturbingly life-like profile of our family therapist.<\/p>\n<p><insert class=\"ins cts-1\" data-cid=\"3\" data-time=\"1451938227821\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">So yeah, I kind of want to switch rooms. Also, if there&#8217;s any way I can actually get two rooms, that would be awesome<delete class=\"del cts-1\" data-cid=\"49\" data-time=\"1452020408018\" data-userid=\"17\" data-username=\"Walker King\">.
