Students returning from their summer break were surprised to find the meal stations in their dining halls filled with various animal bones.\u00a0 The change prompted by the University\u2019s transition to a new meal provider, Bone Appetite, which provides students with a diet consisting exclusively of bones.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/insert><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/insert><\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it was a joke at first,\u201d said third year student Amanda DuBois, sucking the marrow from a large chicken bone.\u00a0 \u201cbut I talked to my RHs, and apparently this is for real.\u00a0 We\u2019re not going to eat anything but bones for the whole year.\u201d<\/insert><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/insert><\/p>\n

In response to the numerous complaints, Bone Appetite reminded students that it offers a wide selection of bones from various animals.\u00a0 A company representative told the Dealer <\/em>\u201cwe pride ourselves on offering diners the finest bones that the animal kingdom has to offer.\u00a0 We serve traditional bones such as pig, cow and chicken, but also offer exotic specialty bones, such as walrus, alligator, antelope and rat.\u00a0 In addition, we have provided buns and various condiments for those students who wish to make bone burgers as well as several dressing choices for bone salad.\u201d<\/insert><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/insert><\/p>\n

\u201cThis whole thing is totally outrageous\u201d said second year David Owens.\u00a0 \u201cI told my dining rep that I was vegetarian and he glared and me and said \u2018just eat the damn bones\u2019.\u00a0 I was totally flabbergasted.\u201d<\/insert><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/insert><\/p>\n

When asked about the negative reaction to it\u2019s choice of meal provider, the university administration confirmed that it has no plans to alter its decision.<\/insert><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/insert><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are confident that Bone Appetite is the right choice for UChicago and its students\u201d said a University representative while gnawing on a large bone.\u00a0 \u201cWe understand that there will be an adjustment, but we are confident that our students will come to understand the joy of tucking in to a nice, big, juicy bone.\u201d<\/insert><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/insert><\/p>\n

Not all of the University\u2019s employees are in support of it\u2019s decision, some of whom expressed outright alarm at the change.<\/insert><\/p>\n

\u201cThere are definitely some human bones mixed in here\u201d said anatomy professor Dr. Janet Brownstein.\u00a0 \u201cThere was a human femur at the kosher station and I\u2019m pretty sure I saw a tibia at halal.\u00a0 Something is wrong here.\u00a0 Something is really wrong.\u201d<\/insert><\/p>\n
