When local undergraduate student Mindy Rankin came home from work last Tuesday evening, she knew something was wrong.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw two or three mugs on the living room table and thought, ‘<\/insert>huh, that\u2019s weird, I thought I washed those,‘<\/insert>\u201d Rankin explains. \u201cW<\/insert>But w<\/delete>hen I went to put them in the kitchen, I passed two more on my dresser and found at least ten of them sitting in the sink. That\u2019s when I realized how serious the problem had become<\/insert>, <\/delete>‘<\/insert><\/delete>oh no\u2026 this is really bad<\/delete>.\u201d<\/insert><\/p>\n

Soggy tea bags, spoiled milk, and <\/insert>tufts of fuzzy growth are<\/insert>:<\/delete> all telltale signs of a mug infestation,<\/insert>\u2014<\/delete>an increasingly common health concern in crowded urban areas. Challis<\/em> antiquus<\/em>, the most common type of mug, is known to accumulate in spaces where students live and study for long periods of time, particularly during the winter. Once mugs are present, they reproduce extremely<\/delete> rapidly and are very difficult to kill. <\/insert><\/p>\n

\u201cThe trouble is,<\/delete> most mugs are resistant to pesticides nowadays,\u201d explains pest control specialist Bob Koopman. \u201cYou just gotta go in and smash the critters one by one.\u201d<\/insert><\/p>\n

Mugs are unable to fly, but can move quickly from the kitchen to other areas of the house by traveling on a human host \ufeff<\/insert>and<\/delete>and<\/insert> remain hidden on flat surfaces for prolonged periods of time.
