Early this morning, members of the university community were awoken by a loud explosion emanating from the Midway Plaisance. Upon looking out their respective windows and doorways, they were surprised to see a<\/insert>A<\/delete> pillar of flame reaching<\/insert>ed<\/delete> hundreds of yards into the air,<\/delete> and fragments of hot metal peppering<\/insert>red<\/delete> campus, which <\/insert>damaged<\/insert>ing<\/delete> several buildings and shattered<\/insert>ing<\/delete> almost every window within a one-mile radius<\/insert>for a mile around<\/delete>. Soon after these events, a<\/delete><\/insert>A<\/delete>n email was <\/delete>quickly<\/delete> sent out by the university administration<\/delete>,<\/delete> <\/delete>explaining the catastrophe<\/insert><\/delete>detailing the catastrophe that befell the school<\/delete>.<\/delete><\/p>\n

\u201cS<\/delete>Soon after these events, an email was sent out by the university administration explaining the catastrophe. “S<\/insert>tudents and Faculty of the University of Chicago,\u201d the email somberly <\/delete>began, \u201cas part of a multiyear <\/insert>joint initiative between NASA and College Housing, the administration has been working to design <\/insert>for years <\/delete>designing <\/delete>a new satellite dorm optimized for sustaining student life and house culture in l<\/insert>L<\/delete>ow-e<\/insert>E<\/delete>arth o<\/insert>O<\/delete>rbit. Hubble House, our most astrodynamic low-<\/delete>Gothic dormitory to date, was scheduled for launch this morning at 1 a.<\/insert>m.<\/insert> CST.\u201d<\/p>\n

The email briefly recounted the well-known <\/delete>history of the project, from the university\u2019s decision to purchase a $1.16 billion dollar Saturn V booster rocket, its plan to fabricate an aesthetically–<\/insert> <\/delete>pleasing and aerodynamic<\/insert> streamlined <\/delete>dorm that could be attached to the nose of said rocket, and of course, the construction of the Arley D. Cathey Mission Control Center and Launchpad. The mega <\/delete>structure housed the dorm assembly facility, resident training sites, and all mission-critical systems.<\/p>\n

\u201c100 brave first-years, upperclassmen, and Resident Assistants eagerly awaited the chance<\/insert>had trained for years <\/delete>in order to<\/delete> <\/insert>to foster their educational growth and formative social experiences in Earth\u2019s exosphere,<\/insert>\u201d read the email. \u201cThese fine students were going to study in space, get good grades beyond gravity, and have<\/insert>old<\/delete> really awkward O-mances in orbit. They were to exemplify the longstanding mission of this fine institution by spreading free and open discourse to the stars. We will miss them, all of them<\/insert> Maroons to the very end<\/insert>all<\/delete>.\u201d<\/p>\n
