An initial\u00a0\u201czombie\u201d player tags a human player, converting them into a zombie. The game ends a\u00a0week after the surviving humans complete an \u201cextraction mission\u201d, or all humans are dead.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Until now, the human defense against the zombies has been firing nerf dart guns or throwing socks that\u00a0stun zombies on contact. However, a near consensus among the HVZ-planning staff has\u00a0concluded that melee weapons should be allowed, since humans would improvise such tools in\u00a0an actual post-apocalyptic setting.\u00a0The guidelines are that each hand can only hold one weapon\u00a0and that each weapon must be foam-tipped.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Most players, overcome with zeal for the game and an inability do basic physics,\u00a0 swung weapons with enough force to\u00a0cause light to injuries.\u00a0The adrenaline rush made the decision immensely popular among players. One student,\u00a0who chose to remain anonymous, said that the experience made him feel \u201clike an anime\u00a0protagonist.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Such support was echoed among the zombie players: \u201cI feel like it adds to the\u00a0experience,\u201d says Peter Smith, a long term HVZ player. \u201cI mean my nose is broken, but I felt the\u00a0passion of a man trapped on his last legs fighting of the undead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other \u201czombie\u201d students have\u00a0been left with bruises, black eyes, and minor concussions.
